About the Instructor

She/Her/Hers

My name is Yu Qian (Yu/yoo, Qian/chee-ahn). Preferred name is Tracy. I hold both Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Piano Performance from The Ohio State University. I began studying piano at age 4 with my mother, Mrs. Cui. I have toured extensively as both a pianist and organist in the United States, China, Italy, the Netherlands, and streamed my performance of Alexander Scriabin’s Piano Concerto Op. 20 at the International Scriabin 150 Festival. Recently, I was invited to perform on the Müller organ at St. Bavo Church in Haarlem, Netherlands in July, 2024.

Quality Instruction

As a member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), I am a passionate educator. I offer quality, personalized piano instruction and music theory to students ranging from beginners to pre-college levels. My teaching covers a wide range of musical styles, including classical, spiritual, pop, folk, musical theater, jazz, and improvisation. I customize arrangements to match each student’s interests and skill level. Students at my studio have free access to all of my arrangements.

At Tracy’s Teaching Studio, we believe that:

  • Studying an instrument benefits the mind, character, and creativity

  • Parents have a crucial role in supporting and encouraging their children to practice daily, seek challenges, and find inspiration

  • Open communication between parents and teachers is essential for tracking a child’s development.

  • Every child is unique, every voice is welcomed.

  • Every student is recognized as an individual, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, class, language, and religion.

  • We are committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in our repertoire, research, and teaching projects.

Nothing is more thrilling than seeing how music interacts differently with each student! I am excited to help students establish their own judgments, tastes, motivations, and teach them how to connect the music they play to their own world.

Studio Recital/Party

We host seasonal studio recital parties, and all students are welcome to attend, though participation is not mandatory. Each recital party features a unique theme, such Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Happy New Year, or a Picnic. Students can perform music they've learned in lessons or showcase their own compositions.

Students are encouraged to invite their families, friends, and even pets to join in the celebration. They may also dress up to match the theme or their chose music. Families are welcome to bring snacks to share at a reception. Recitals can take place in various settings, including parks (using a digital keyboard), backyards, student homes, churches, and nursing home.

Family Plan

If multiple students from the same family enroll or if a student refers another new student, different accounts will be added to the monthly piano lesson fees after successful enrollment.
